The property was first settled by Andrew and Thomas Chirnside in 1842. It carried finewool Merinos and cattle and once the government had granted the Chirnside Borthers freehold, they set about building a 20-stand bluestone woolshed. Woolshed - Mt William Homestead

The Woolshed at Mount William Homestead is a large bluestonebuilding erected for pastoralist brothers Thomas and Andrew Chirnside in 1865. Constructed in coursed masonry, the structure has a large, flat, hipped slate roof. There is a pyramid roofed, weatherboard tower and weatherboard extensions. sIn 1839, Andrew Scott took up the station at 'Mt. Boninyong" which comprised 16,000 acres. Mrs. Scott was reputedly the first white woman in the area. The present homestead was built in 1884 by Robert Scott and was designed by architect, Henderson in "Scottish Baronial Mansion" style.
